Volume 14: Noleta Liminal is Available Online
In this issue, 32 poets and fiction writers explore liminality and honor the journal’s new home at Noleta Press.
When I think of Noleta and what it represents, liminality comes to mind. Transitions. The space in between. It’s more than just our location in between two cities driving this sense. Noleta is home to other transitional places, such as San Marcos High, the County jail, and the County coroner’s office, to name a few.
In this issue, you’ll find Noleta-based and Noleta-adjacent stories and poems such as Jacob Herrera Spear’s Bridge to Nowhere (celebrating an actual Noleta landmark) and Valerie Girard’s Dream the Liminal Now. Poet and fellow Noletian David Starkey writes about Noleta and how it came to be in his creative nonfiction piece Noleta: An Introduction.
We are very thrilled to feature the work of Noleta-based artist Robin Gowen. A detail from Robin’s painting Conversing Trees graces our cover and her delightful pen and ink sketches make up the frontispiece for each story and are scattered elsewhere throughout the volume. I had the great pleasure of interviewing Robin for this issue, which you can read on page 209.
You can order a copy now from our website, or find one in your favorite local bookstore in November. I hope you enjoy Noleta Liminal as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
