Volume 12 Events

By Junior Bases

A new crop of authors and poets from Santa Barbara and beyond are published in Volume 12 of the Santa Barbara Literary Journal, Superposition. Some of these wonderful writers will be reading their work for all lucky enough to attend.

Saturday, October 18th, 2025, was the first public reading, at the Tecolote Book Shop in beautiful Montecito. Right in front of the shop sat chairs, refreshments, and fiction lovers from Los Angeles to Isla Vista; it was a perfect Saturday afternoon.

There were five readers including Shelley Lowenkopf, longtime poetry editor of the Santa Barbara Literary Journal, who read his new stuff to the crowd. Other returning writers include Shira Musicant, who read her short story “The Little Man,” and Max Talley, who read part of his sci-fi story “The Fog of Future War.”

Readers Alex Rogers and Humzah Farrukh, both from L.A., gave interviews after the event. You can find Alex’s short story “Anxiety Mi Amor,” as well as Humzah’s poems “Notes from the Potato Bug” and “Fruit Stall” in the new volume as well. Keep your eyes on the blog for Alex and Humzah’s interviews in the coming weeks.

If you missed these wonderful creations, you can hear some of them at the next reading at Handlebar Coffee Roasters, 2720 De La Vina Street, Santa Barbara, on November 15th, 3 - 4 pm.

This event is a fantastic way to support the local literary community. You’ll have the chance to enjoy some afternoon coffee, meet and chat with the writers, and even purchase the new volume to get your hands on all of the latest Santa Barbara literature.
